Getting Started with the Hover Cover
In general, Burton recommends a three-step progression plan for getting started with the Riglet Board + Hover Cover.
The Three-Step Progression Plan
- Start Inside
- Take it Outside
- Finish on Snow
Step 1: Start Inside
You can use the Riglet Board on carpet or the Riglet Board with the Hover Cover on solid surfaces like hardwood or tile. Have your kid jump on the board, hold onto the Riglet Reel and slowly start pulling them around. Try changing up the speed and navigating around corners and obstacles as they get their balance.
Step 2: Take it Outside
All you need is your kiddos, a patch of grass, and a Riglet Board to have fun snowboarding right at home—no matter the season or the footwear. Use the open space to pull your kid around at higher speeds; or better yet, have siblings pull each other around. This is also a great time to practice safely falling off a snowboard so that kids can get the feeling of getting back up and trying again.
Pro tip: You don’t need to use the Hover Cover for outdoor riding.
Step 3: Finish on Snow
Once your kids are comfortable with the basic motions, take the snowboarding to the snow. Since the Riglet Board includes an integrated Riglet Reel you can easily practice pulling your kids around on flat surfaces and work up to small slopes whenever they’re ready. Give a little tug and let gravity kick in for the kids to experience the feeling of snowboarding; add some bindings and before you know it, they’ll be ready for the rope tow.
Reminder: The Riglet Board does not have metal edges and is not recommended for use at resorts or on hardpacked or icy conditions. If you’re heading to the mountain, make sure to check-in at the ticket office before riding a Riglet Board on any trails.
